MICHAEL HUTCHENCE DELUXE BOOK LAUNCH

Bruce Butler hosts this very special event to launch the release of the new book on the life of INXS lead singer Michael Hutchence as seen through the eyes of his sister, Tina Hutchence.

Tina gives us the story of her life with Michael through these wild, wonderful and eventually tragic days as the lead singer of INXS.

Local rock god from the Models, Sean Kelly and the wonderful Rosie Westbrook are supporting Jen and Tina with some very special renditions of songs by INXS and Max Q

HOSTED by

BRUCE BUTLER

BRUCE BUTLER is an innovative manager who has worked across many facets of the Australian music industry. He has worked closely with independent acts including Ollie Olsen, Do Re Mi, the Church, David Bridie, My Friend the Chocolate Cake and Monique Brumby and the labels Karmic Hit and Psy-Harmonics. Bruce met Michael Hutchence when the two were young men just starting out and remained friendly with him throughout his career.

AUTHORS

JEN JEWEL BROWN

Jen Jewel Brown was the first reporter for Rolling Stone Australia. The author of Skyhooks: Million Dollar Riff (1975), Jen interviewed Michael many times throughout the 1980s and sang on his solo single Speed Kills. As a Professional Manager at MCA/Gilbey, it was Jen who helped sign INXS to a worldwide music publishing deal. Today Jen lives and writes in Melbourne.

TINA HUTCHENCE

Christina ‘Tina’ Hutchence was born in Melbourne and grew up all over Australia. In her twenties Christina moved from Hong Kong to the United States to follow her mother into the film industry as a make-up artist. Christina is now based in California with her family.

MUSICAL ACCOMPANIMENT by

SEAN KELLY

SEAN KELLY (Models, Absent Friends, The Dukes) is a multi-ARIA-award-winning artist and producer. The eccentric and exciting singer, songwriter and guitarist co founded and fronted Australia’s biggest electronica-meets-rock band Models and remains a fascinating artist to follow. Sean played with INXS’s Garry Gary Beers in Absent Friends and was a good friend of Michael Hutchence. Models often played with INXS, including on the Australian Made national tour of 1987-8, where they made beautiful musical companions.

ROSIE WESTBROOK

ROSIE WESTBROOK is a classically-trained solo artist, multi-instrumentalist and composer. She is especially renowned for her emotional and cinematic compositions featuring the bowed double bass. Rosie has toured internationally with Mick Harvey, played alongside Clare Moore and Kaye-Louise Patterson in The Dames and with Not Drowning Waving guitarist John Phillips. Her two acclaimed solo albums and film and television soundtracks augur for a long career.

He died at only 37 but still has fans in the millions. INXS singer/songwriter Michael Hutchence was the celebrated frontman of one of the biggest bands in the world. Like many people, his big sister, Tina, was fascinated by him from the moment she met him and they remained close right up until he died. From the team effort to get INXS off the ground to Christmases with Helena Christensen, Tina was there through it all.

From her memories of her brother as a shy teenage boy with a lisp, to the head injury that changed everything for Michael, to his bliss at the birth of his only child, Tina’s personal and heartfelt biography reveals the true stories behind the incredible rollercoaster life of Australia’s most enduring rockstar and recollections of an adored brother and son. Rich in INXS history and previously untold memories from key people close to Michael, this is the complete biography Australia’s been waiting for.

‘Lost boy Michael, who was my dear friend, and who is very much missed. All respect and thanks to Tina for sharing these stories and keeping the memory alive.’ – Simon le Bon, Duran Duran
